What Are You Willing To Do for Love? | A Gospel Reflection for the 6th Sunday of Easter

How do we show our love for other people?

Every second Sunday of May, we celebrate Mother’s Day. We first experienced love through our mothers. They loved us and cared for us even before we were born. They guided us as we grew and they sacrificed a lot for our welfare. We are here in this world because of them. As the saying goes,"Isusubo na lang, ibibigay pa sa anak" proves that mothers would do anything to show their love for their children.

Couples show their affection by hugging and kissing each other. Husbands would often bring flowers or chocolates for their wives, and wives would usually cook for their husbands as a sign of love. Friends would support each other, especially during times of trials and difficulties .But as Christians, what should we do to show our love for God?

In today’s gospel, Jesus challenges every one of us to show our love for Him. But how? He clearly said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." We can show our love for God by following His commandments. And what is the ultimate commandment of God? That is, to love one another.

It seems easy to say, but in real life, it is very difficult, especially if the person is unlovable or has hurt you the most. Jesus knows this. That is why He promised to send the Holy Spirit to us. With the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we will be able to follow the will of God. He will help us to love everyone. even those who are unlovable. The Holy Spirit will inspire us to be Christ-like in everything that we say and do.

Today, we are also celebrating the Feast of our Mother and Patroness, Our Lady of the Abandoned. She loved God so much that she gave her "fiat" to Him. May we always draw inspiration from her life of obedience and complete trust in the Almighty, who has done great things in her life.
