Jesus is the Way | A Gospel Reflection for the 5th Sunday of Easter

Blessed Sunday to all!

Thomas was asking Jesus for he says that he does not know the way, but he indeed knows Him. The Way is in front of him, He is Jesus. Oftentimes too, in our lives, we seem to claim that we do not know the Way. It’s easier to be hopeless than to hope, it is easier to doubt than to believe. This is true for most of us humans because hoping and believing are gifts from God. They are graces that we could ask from Him. Whenever we think that there is no other solution to our life’s problems, Jesus is the Way. Jesus is also our Way to the Father. It is through Him and His sacrifice on the Cross that we are saved.

Jesus is also the Truth. But the Truth is, He came down to suffer, die and rise again. We too must carry our own Crosses and die to ourselves, to worldliness and sinfulness. To be reborn in Christ means sacrifice. It is not the world’s definition of happiness where everything is about personal gain and self-interests. Christ’s Truth focuses on sacrifice and giving oneself for the service of others, not for fame, but for love. This is because God first loved us, and we are only responding to His love through our service.

By all these, we will have true Life that is full, a life lived with and in Christ. Whenever we eat the Body and Blood of Christ in the Holy Communion, we have eternal life in us. For as long as we receive Him in the state of grace without mortal sin, the life, love, and grace of Jesus flow in us. We become the true children of the Father. It’s now possible, and even easier to defeat evil and temptation through the Holy Eucharist. By receiving Holy Communion, it happens literally not only spiritually, that we dwell in the Lord and that He dwells in us.

 Amen. +
