Here are 5 things that you need to know about this feast:
1. The Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, or Corpus Christi, celebrates the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist — Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.
2. The Feast of Corpus Christi was established in 1246 when Robert de Torote, bishop of Liège, ordered the festival to be celebrated in his diocese. This is in response to the vision of St. Juliana, wherein she saw a full moon with dark spots. This symbolizes the Church's lack of feast to celebrate the real presence of Christ in the eucharist.
3. Pope Urban IV extended the celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi in the universal Church on September 8, 1264 after the eucharistic miracle that happened in Bolsena, Italy in 1263.
4. Traditionally, the Feast of Corpus Christi is celebrated on Thursday after the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. But for pastoral reasons, it can be transferred to the following Sunday.
5. Every year, a eucharistic procession is held to celebrate this feast. This is an opportunity to publicly proclaim our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Let us joyfully celebrate this feast. Let us attend the holy mass and participate in the eucharistic adoration and procession organized by our parish. As one community, let us proclaim our faith in Jesus truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament!
Adoremus in aeternum sanctissimum Sacramentum!
May we all have a blessed Feast of Corpus Christi!
