Who is the obedient one? Is it the one who says that he will do it but does not or who said “no” but did it in the end? In the gospel today, Jesus said that the one who obeyed is he who does what he is told to do. In other words, we have to express our obedience through action, not just words. A lot of people like to hear the Word of God and delight in it, but it ends in that without action. However, being a true Christian means we will hear and do the Word of God.
Why is it important to listen to the Gospel? It is where God speaks to us at the moment. Even if we have heard the same Gospel a thousand times, it is alive, and we will receive a different message from the Holy Spirit every time we read it. There is always an equivalent action, a corresponding change that God wants to see in us, and it is through the Word. One of the biggest mistakes that one could make is to think that we have heard and know everything but in reality, our task is to listen and to do what God asks of us in the present, right here today. This may be different from what He will tell us tomorrow.
God awaits the fruit of His word in us that will transform us into persons like Christ. May God open our hearts so that we will listen to His word, and may He grant us the courage to do what He asks of us.
Amen. +
